Meet the Team

Liesbet Thewissen

Founder

Liesbet Thewissen graduated as an architect from the Provincial University College Limburg (BE) in 2000 and obtained her diploma in additional studies of spatial planning at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Ghent University (BE) in 2001. After her architecture internship, she worked on various urban planning projects at the consulting firm Libost (Hasselt, BE) until her ambition led her in 2005 to the firm Space Syntax (London, UK), a spin-off company of University College London that provides strategic advice on larger architectural projects, area development, and mobility projects. Here, she was able to focus for three years on objective spatial research into the functioning of a place in relation to its specific layout and design, the present functions, the identified movement and usage patterns of people, and the integration of this place into the broader mobility network.

Since the founding of C.T. ARCHITECTS, Liesbet has worked on research projects commissioned by the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Hasselt University and various governments, developed spatial implementation plans, and was instrumental in several core strengthening projects and architectural projects with a focus on housing. From 2015 to 2017, Liesbet part-time supported the Spatial Development Department of the city of Genk where she conducted design research into the development possibilities of several areas in Genk, was responsible for the coordination and guidance of various spatial implementation plans and master plans, and co-supervised larger construction projects in the preliminary phase. Since 2019, she has expanded this support to several other municipalities, including Laakdal and Maasmechelen. With the training ‘Regional Area Development’ (VRP, 2018), Liesbet aims to further position C.T. ARCHITECTS as a partner in addressing spatial challenges that transcend municipal boundaries. For the period 2013-2018, Liesbet served as an active member (expert) in the GECORO of Bilzen. From 2018 to 2024 she contributed as an active member of the GECORO of Hasselt.
